This remarkable piece is a vintage deaccession from the collection of renowned artist Robert Beaven. The large creation measures 78â x 75â, and boasts craftsmanship that is intricate and impressive, all pieced and hand-tied.
From the Collection of Robert Beaven:
Robert Beaven is an accomplished artist and retired Professor of Fine Arts at the University of Cincinnati. A central figure in shaping UCâs sculpture program when the universityâs art, architecture, and design departments merged to form DAAP in 1970, Beaven taught for more than three decades while also maintaining an active studio.
The foundation of Bobâs career began in painting and printmaking before evolving into mixed media sculpture and ultimately finely crafted furniture inspired by the Adirondack tradition. His work has been exhibited at the Tangeman Gallery, the Contemporary Arts Center, and Solway Gallery, with one of his early prints held in the esteemed Cincinnati Art Museumâs collection.
Following his retirement, Beaven immersed himself in antiques, folk art, and the natural world, incorporating twigs, sticks, fossils, and other found materials into his sculptural furniture. Together with his wife, Anne, they ran a successful antiques business, building lasting connections with fellow collectors across the country.
This sale reflects the breadth of Beavenâs passionsâas both a maker and a collectorâoffering a rare opportunity to engage with the vision of an artist whose life and work are deeply rooted in curiosity, craftsmanship, and an enduring reverence for art in all its forms.
